畫面左邊的就是小貓嶼，右邊就是大貓嶼 - 位於望安島西南方約16公里的海域上，在花嶼的南方，相距約8公里。蔣毓英《臺灣府志》中提及：「大貓嶼，怪石隱約如貓，故名。小貓嶼，由大貓嶼脫落，山形與大貓嶼如一而小，故土人呼為大貓、小貓。」貓嶼包括大貓嶼與小貓嶼和一些小岩礁，大貓嶼高約70公尺，是澎湖群島中的最高處，四面有陡立的海崖，攀登困難。小貓嶼位於大貓嶼東方，退潮時，有一寬約10公尺的海溝相隔，島高約50公尺，四周崖璧陡峭，無法攀爬。貓嶼曾是海、空軍的靶場，民國八十年（1991）經行政院農業委員會核定公告危野生動物保護區；八十六年（1997）又經核定為「澎湖縣貓嶼海鳥保護區」。貓嶼的鳥類資源調查紀錄約有23科44種，玄燕鷗為貓嶼數量最多的鳥種，其次為白眉燕鷗，均屬珍貴稀有鳥種。
