    • 小門這個地名的遊來是因為小門村東邊有一小道，剛好夾臥於兩旁的高山之間，以前小門村的人出入村子都得經過這條小徑，遠看像個門，因此就較這個地方為小門。
    • 小門嶼以前是和西嶼連結在一塊，因海水長期侵蝕，將一段窄短的陸塊吞蝕，所以小門便和西嶼切割開，後來才需要搭小門橋將小門和西嶼再度銜接。所以要到小門村得經過永安橋、中正橋、澎湖跨海大橋、以及最後一座小門橋。
    • 遊客對小門的印象就是鯨魚洞，關於鯨魚洞的由來眾說紛紜，比較普遍的說法是有條小鯨魚擱淺在小門岸邊，母鯨極力搶救卻無力回天，母鯨因悲傷過度而撞山壁自盡，於是撞擊出了這樣一個類似鯨魚身體形貌的鯨魚洞。但是實際上，所謂的鯨魚洞在地質學上來說是海蝕作用所鑿出的一個海蝕門，包括平行侵蝕與垂直侵蝕的結果，鯨魚洞旁邊有一根海蝕柱，原本也是海蝕門，後因上頭的門頂陷落而變成海蝕柱。

    • 最普遍的玩法是遊客會來到鯨魚洞前的石板路上以鯨魚洞為背景構圖拍照。
    • 站長酷愛爬愛亂石堆隱身在鯨魚洞內，海蝕門遮蔽了酷熱的夏日，浪濤在五公尺外拍大巨石，浪濤聲在洞內撞擊石壁發出轟隆的回音，洞內沁涼的海風跟洞外酷熱的焚風形成強烈對比，然後找一塊巨石躺下來就可以閉上眼睛聆聽大海的聲籟。但是一定要小心海蟑螂，還有冬天怒濤泊岸時千萬別這樣玩，一個大浪你就不見啦！
    • 小門山上佈滿了澎湖傳統的菜宅景觀，就是大家口中的蜂巢田，以咾咕石圍成方形菜牆以抵禦東北季風對於作物的破壞。
    • 小門山上東北方的地上佈滿了石英砂，約一到兩公分大小橢圓狀的金色石粒，在陽光照射下金光閃閃瑞氣千條，小時候我們都會在地上挖這種所謂的「黃金」，這些小石英砂撿來送給朋友可以唬一唬說是黃金原礦。不過澎湖島上並無石英砂的母岩，應該是海上漂來的。
    • 小門國小往東可以看到小門燈塔，這裡是欣賞夕陽的理想地點囉！
    • 在進入小門鯨魚洞之前，會先經過小門橋，稍在橋上作一停留，右邊方向可以看見跨海大橋；風平浪靜時，藍天白雲直接倒映在寧靜無波的海面上，有跨海大橋作點綴，有種開闊美。

  • 澎湖人的老記憶：
    • 關於鯨魚洞的傳說，其實當地人比較接受的說法是百年以前小門住家少（現在還是很少，只有70人不到），經濟生活不富裕，平日鮮少有機會吃到肉，有日一隻鯨魚擱淺在小門岸邊，村民就聯手割魚肉大啖，據說吃了好幾天才吃完，後來這件事情被美化為母鯨殉難的佳話。據說當時鯨魚的骨頭一部份現在就是安在西嶼竹灣大義宮地下珊瑚洞的牆壁上（還看得到），另外一半則是埋藏在村辦公處的地下。
