此曲是鄭智仁二○○四年的創作，由萬益嘉編曲。澎湖又名「菊島」，島上特有的天人菊不畏風寒日曬四季開花，而「澎湖頌」便是要傳達澎湖人刻苦耐勞、堅毅不拔的生命特質。鄭智仁親自將珍貴作品「澎湖頌」手稿贈予縣府，期盼善用更多元的方式表現澎湖頌，透過優美的詩詞旋律，讓更多的人感受澎湖的海水、海風、玄武岩等獨特魅力，展現出澎湖海洋、土地與人民整體的內涵與精神。
